Snow Leopard Folder Colors by ekliptikz Snow Leopard Folder Colors by ekliptikz
I like to color code my folders to keep organized, and I like a little more flexibility than what the colored file labels in OSX can offer.

So this is the default Snow Leopard folder in various colors. The .zip contains both .icns and .png formats.

Changing a folder icon using Finder:
  1. Right click one of the colored folders, and select Get Info (or highlight a folder and hit ⌘I)
  2. In the pop-up window, click the folder's icon in the top left
  3. Press ⌘C
  4. Repeat steps 1 & 2 for the folder whose icon you want to change. But instead of copying its icon as in step 3, press ⌘V instead.

Beautiful folder icons! And you chose such appropriate names! Great! Can't wait to use some.
I've found it is harder to change folder icons in OS X El Capitan. It used to be so easy!
I used to use FolderBrander, but I now have to load icons one by one into FolderBrander. I don't know why I can't just select to import all icons in a folder.
Should I use .icns or .png for OS X. I know, I'm a complete newb about this. Sorry.
Thanks anyway!

I'm having the same issue as virusgal. I changed the color of all the folders on my desktop successfully, but when I try to change any again, the new color only appears in the Get Info window.

I am using El Capitan.  When I change the color of a folder on my desktop, it appears correctly in the Finder "get info" but remains the original color on the desktop.  What am I doing wrong here?  Worked perfectly before I upgraded to El Capitan!

Thanks so much to "ekliptikz" for all of these great folder colors!! You have provided a GREAT range of colors. Wow!!

For those who aren't sure how to use these great files, here are the steps:
1. Find the folder you want to change the color of, select it and "Get Info" from right clicking on it.
Notice that at the top of the Get Info window, there is a small view of the icon for the folder. This image can be modified. The next steps are to make that happen.
2. From the downloaded set from this site, open (i.e., double-click) one of the folders of files, based upon the color you want to make your folder (e.g., Maraschino), and see the option of files within it.
3. You want to use the file with the .icns extension.
4. Drag the file with the .icns extension and drop it onto the folder icon image at the top in the Get Info window for the folder you selected in Step 1. You should see a + appear when you are over the icon image, and when you let go, the icon changes to the one you selected from Step 3.

Thank you for this help BUT do you know how to remove a SL color-folder? I got them on some TIFF files (not folders) by mistake and cannot get them off. Any help?

I wish I could get these to work in Yosemite.  I am not sure how to make the transition from the existing folder that i have on the desktop and the color folders that you have in Snow Leopard.  I try to follow your instructions but nothing happens.

Could you please port them to .png?
